Salix koriyanagi, 'Rubykins'  Z 4,5,6,7,8, DR/Cut/Hon/Bask.

Mature height - 10'x10', Growth - Fast, Light - S, Soil - Med.-Wet

An attractive little tree with narrow blue green leaves that flutter in the wind revealing silvery underside. Dark red catkins and red-pink cut stems are useful in floral arrangements. We find this one of the first catkins to appear, useful for insects and bees that poke their heads out on warm February days. Produces great rods for basketry. This is highly recommended aesthetically and from a utilitarian standpoint. If your not a basket maker I am sure you always need poles for staking, let this willow do it for you.

An upright medium size tree in the landscape that's twisted branches offer winter interest, and fall prey to the floral arranger. Often managed by either coppicing or pollarding.

Salix Matsudana TortuosaX alba'Tristis', 'Golden Curls'  Z ,5,6,7,8, DR/Cut

Mature height - 30'x15', Growth - Fast, Light - S, Soil - Med.-Wet, Origin - South America

Curly golden stems that have slightly pendulous nature. Will make small tree or manage  by coppicing or pollarding for cut branches.

Salix pentandra, LAUREL WILLOW, , Z 2,3,4,5,6,7, DR, Orn, catk., Hon.

Mature height - 30'20', Growth – Fast, Light - S, Soil -  Med.-Wet, Origin - Europe

Best suited to Zone 5 and under, otherwise prey to leaf diseases. When ideally located its polished dark green leaves earn it, its common name. Sometimes touted as the nearest thing to an evergreen magnolia when in leaf, for its great leaves.

Prime basket makers willow. Not bad ornamentally, bluish long thin leaves. Manage by coppicing or pollard.

A compact form with narrow blue-green leaves that will add great texture to shrub border.

This variety of basket willow was developed for stream bank protection, multi-stemmed habit.

Upright form with slender branches and small neat dark leaves.

Mature height - 12'x12', Growth - Fast, Light - S-Psh, Soil - Med.-Wet, Origin - Japan

A long time favorite. Green leaf that stays good through out summer. Winter reveals in mature plants a spreading  tangled mass of branches with flattened ends that are very attractive in arrangements. If cut back hard in late winter yearly, will provide longer stems. Catkins turn yellow and complement daffodils in Spring.

Catkins emerge from flattened branches.

Leaf stays good in summer heat and turns yellow in fall.

Salix X tsugalensis 'Gimne'   Z 4,5,6,7,8, DR/Catkins

Mature height - 15'x15', Growth - Fast, Light - S-Psh, Soil - Med.-Wet, Origin - Japan

Lots of  Catkins that become oddly re-curved at maturity. A vigorous large shrub with long, smooth, light-grey, widely spreading branches. New wood growth is a shining olive-green. New leaves have a  red-tinge and translucent; before darkening in maturity.(S. integra x S. vulpina)
