Cornus/RED
TWIG DOGWOOD varieties are a must in any garden, for winter garden and additions
to floral displays. (Unless you are packing of to
Florida and out of the house for the winter months !). The striking stem color is
only noticeably after leaves fall and temperatures drop. You will have 5 months
of display of vibrant stems in a variety of colors depending on species; which is pretty good for any plant.
Highlighted if planted in front of 'greenery' and contrasts
with white barked birch. Planting on mass makes a stunning display . We cut our established plants back to 18'' before the
start of Spring as it is only the new growth that will have the startling color
the following winter.

Yellow edged,
green pink leaves add interest in the growing season. We find in hot areas this
one despite its variegated leaves does ok in sun and we work it in with grass
plantings.

Cornus sanguinea, 'Winter Flame', Z 4,5,6,7,8, DR/Cut
Mature height - 8'x10', Growth - Med., Light - S-Psh, Soil
- Med./Wet, Origin - Europe
An open fire of a combination of yellow and red shaded
winter twig. This is perhaps our favorite of the whole collection. The fall
color is a significant yellow tinged with pinky red leaves and lasts a
long time. Perhaps not so vigorous as the other varieties and in pruning we tend
to be more selective and only remove a 1/3rd of the plant each year if you need
to at all. Un pruned plants have attractive older barks and spikey orange hair !
More wigs for the fire please.
Fall color.
Cornus sericea, RED TWIG DOGWOOD, Z 3,4,5,6,7,8,
DR/Cut
Mature height - 8'x10', Growth - Med., Light - S-Psh, Soil
- Med./Wet, Origin- East US
Our work horse plant for massing. Its suckering habit makes
it good for erosion control
and producing masses of plum red twigs. Red, any color description is very
subjective, these plants might not be as red as a 'cardinal' but make and
impressive sight in winter.

Cornus sericea, 'Cardinal', Z 3,4,5,6,7,8, DR/Cut
Mature height - 8'x10', Growth - Med., Light - S-Psh, Soil
- Med./Wet; Origin- East US
Twig like the male bird its named after, cherry red.
Brighter stems at the top, but a little more green shows at base, even on one
year stems.

Cornus sericea, 'Buds Yellow', Z 3,4,5,6,7,8, DR/Cut
Mature height - 8'x10', Growth - Med., Light - S-Psh, Soil
- Med./Wet, Origin- East US
A yellow twig dogwood that has improved stem color and disease
resistance than older varieties.
'Dogwood' flower and yellow twig.

Cornus sericea, 'Silver and Gold',Z
3,4,5,6,7,8, DR/Cut
Mature height - 8'x10', Growth - Med., Light - S-Psh, Soil
- Med./Wet, Origin - Eastern US
A yellow twig with white and green variegated leaf. We find
the leaf holds up well in our hot and humid conditions. Perhaps a little slower
growing than other selections.
